Bad supervisors justify their existence by creating problems. Sarah Quintana Castro this is your chance, sent your feedback to your higher ups, when they realise that the middle management is making things worse, they might be inclined to get rid of the concept Stacy Lynn Farley They do not want the work done. They want to feel needed and important with all their idiotic bullshit. Alice F. Hyke I work on my projects during calls, then if someone says my name i go like... you're cutting off, can you hear me? Could you repeat that? While muting and rmoving mute while speaking Waylon Jamez Swan My most productive work times: the Friday after Thanksgiving, and the week between Christmas and New Year's. No one is around to pester me with dumbass requests, status updates, or 'socializing'. Chantelle Reid When i was working on one company. Nobody knew what the middle managment dude did.... i asked almost everytime from other workers and my supervisors and even they didin’t know. He was complete shithead and got a good payroll ofc :) well then real shit started to happen and everybody was mad about but didin’t say anything back. He watched security cameras all day long, he had like a minion working with us xD minion said always that hes watching the cameras. I was the only one who stood up and i had worked there like maybe 6-7months. Well i stood up, without any warnings i got fired by the middle managment dude with false accusations.... weeeeelll i had proof from everything :) i still got fired but the other workers continued my mission, Middle managment dude got fired big time and the minion lady. Holy shit i was happy to hear that! Dawud Basharat Yaqoob Mark Nollan Yeah meetings are too distructive. Why we can't just make all of them in 1 day and spend other 4 days for real work Han Zaw Zaw I feel you mate. I used to work in a division level law enforcement office in my country. We used to send the monthly reports to the HQ regarding all the case stats, crime sheets, seizure sheets, accused, arrests, etc. and still they used to pester us for a ton of reports on a variety of topics - most of which could have been answered from the very same monthly reports anyways. At times it felt like instead of doing work, they were "inventing" unnecessary work. We used to get hardly any time to go out in the field, nab some culprits, make cases or simply make our presence known by patrolling the roads. All my efforts to teach Computers stuff to my senior officers were in vain coz they were all above 50, having mental block to use only paper and had a "too old to learn technology" excuse. I was the only one below 30 there. Renee Garcia I work those days because its extra pay , and there's jack shit to do so i just play games and watch netflix at work . Leanne Cartwright Middle management is people upper management hires so they can concentrate more on daytime drinking and secretary's genitals. Angela Paterson Dell' Arte Hello not from US but maybe it will still gives you answers. I may start a startup soon in France. The legal basis as an owner is that before your are doing any business, you are forces to play « try not to have all your non covered belongings seized by the state for no reason challenge » The main rules are clear: - If you don’t know EVERYTHING that is going on, you are screwed. Basically if tribunal can judge that you may be at fault for a failure, then tough luck m8 welcome to homelessness. However, it’s not the case if failure is due to « economic conjecture ». As an owner it is more profitable to run a shitty inefficient business than to do things right, beacause the risk for yourself gets low. If you try to do things right and not micromanage, you are all-in. -the meetings are avoidable but the status reports are not. See lt as evidence for the owner that they did their best. Yes its stupid beacause spending time on status reports is a mistake Linda Patero Poor confession bear fell so hard from grace now he is just a whine on something bear Bettyk Miller Dude is keeping you all in the job. All your jobs could probably be done by one or two people. You likely wouldn't have a job without this guy wasting your time.. Demauri Brunson Doing a months work in 2 days seems impossible. Care to explain? Kay Stansberry There is a concept called "scope of management" that states you really can only manage less than 8 people effectively, and if you're managing less than 4 people you fall into micromanagement patterns and are more harmful than good. So 4-8 people are the ideal amount of people to manage. Companies structure around this concept, but obviously most are much larger than 8 people so they create tiers based on powers of 8 and have a mangement level at each tier. Ginger Bugielski Probably too thorough, most don’t really care... Good middle managers are only really visible at two times. One: shit hits the fan. They should be there to rapidly solve problems due to a significant change outside the control of the company (hostile merger, firing of some senior dipshit). They should know what their departments do, how they connect to the other departments so change happens with minimal effect, generally turn crisis into manageable. Two: to cheer people on because shit’s going well. The rest of the time they do stupid little things in small enough volume to find what might work better than what’s going on at present. This is why there has to be a meeting or ten... ideas, sharing, planning, etc. otherwise these little stupid things can become big stupid things. The world is so complex, it cannot be completely planned. But they are middle because they don’t get to design the plan (most cannot really understand it)- they just make sure the people doing work do Nanagurup P. Yrol My last boss was like that. He wasted my time all the time. And not only for status reports or something remotely important. I had to drop everything and come immedietally after each call, whereever i was in factory. Only to PRESS ENTER... Or stand next to him for 2 hours waiting for God knows what only to be told he has a meeting and needs to go... Worst manager ever.... Amber Griffin The sad thing is that meetings when done properly is suppose to be helpful and is an important part of preventing fuckups and making sure that people are collectively still on the same page. These days in most working environments most people don’t even know all the technicalities that is important to a meeting. All they know is that they should have them. So what is happening now is there are a bunch of managers/staff/etc with no clue how to hold a meeting, that think they do, and think they should.
